Camping Supplies - Ensure Clean Drinking Water in Outdoor Trips
66
Not bringing sufficient water because you are hoping that there will be a good source of clean water in the campsite is never a good idea. Because water is one of the basic essentials that we need to survive, it is imperative that you bring ample amounts of drinking water to keep yourself healthy and hydrated at all times. Not to mention, that we all the more need water in a setting such as a camping ground where physical activities demand physical energy and the sun is always shining so bright.
Keep in mind that in campgrounds, a fresh water source is rarely available, making it a need for you to bring your own bottled water. Even when there are rivers or streams available to give you water, this may be bacteria-infected and can cause diseases such as cholera, typhoid fever, diarrhea, dysentery and many others. Surely, you would not want to bring home a disease. It is not something that you would want for a souvenir, right?
But if ever it happens that you run out of water and you are doubtful that the water sources in the campsite are clean, there are ways you can do to treat water and make it safe for drinking.
Filtering
One effective way of treating water is by filtering it. Filters can be used to clear water from leaves, bugs, barks, and other sediments that come with it. A portable filtration system can clean up the taste and smell of water. However, it is very important to know that even though a filter can make water appear as if it is clean, you should know that this is not capable of eliminating bacteria that cannot be seen by the naked eye.
Boiling
This is one of the basic ways of treating water that can kill bacteria because as we all know, water that is exposed to air typically has bacteria in it. Use a clean pot or pan to boil water and make sure you cover it to avoid insects or whatever element from landing on it. Bring it to a rapid boil for at least 10 minutes then wait for it to cool down before drinking. Make sure it is already cooled down before you take a sip to avoid burning your mouth.
Purifying
Water purifying drops or tablets can be purchased from stores to make water safe for drinking. These drops or tablets contain chemicals that are effective in killing bacteria in water. Before you use this treatment, boil the water first. You also must make sure that the drops or tablets are not yet expired. This treatment can result in a weird taste in water. To resolve this, you can add flavorings to the water or a pinch of salt to improve the taste.
