Camping with Babies: How to Make it Fun and Safe

Some parents think it is impossible to bring a baby to a camping trip. But the truth is, it is even easier to bring an infant to this kind of vacation than to bring toddlers. Toddlers are always running around and trying all sorts of mischievous things while babies just sleep all day. Of course, a camping trip with a baby will not be successful if you do not plan it right. Here are some pointers to consider if you are going to bring your sweet little pea to your next camping excursion.

Safety

Safety is your foremost concern when camping with your baby. For one, you need to protect your baby from the sun. A baby-friendly sunscreen with no para amino benzoic acid chemical is one thing you should have. You should also make your baby wear a hat to further shield her from the harmful rays of the sun. Aside from that, you need to bring an insect repellent that is specially formulated for baby’s sensitive skin. This is used to protect your little one from annoying and painful insect bites that can cause health problems. Also, do not forget to bring a mosquito net so your baby can sleep soundly without insects interfering her comfortable sleep.

Sleeping Arrangements

Speaking of comfortable sleep, babies tend to have trouble sleeping at night especially those younger than six months. To avoid the problem of being awake (and waking up fellow campers) at night, prepare a comfortable sleeping arrangement for you and your little one. Invest on comfy and soft portable cots for sale such as Coleman cots. An air mattress, soft pillows, and ample blankets would also help do the trick. If you are not agreeable to the idea of having your kid sleep on the floor then be sure to bring a portable crib. Moreover, play some soothing music inside the tent to lull your baby to sleep soundly.

Daily Care

Hygiene can be a challenge in campsites with no bathrooms. This is why, it is a must that you choose a campground that has sufficient amenities to keep you and your baby clean and hygienic at all times. Bring all the items necessary for your little one’s bath and grooming like her comb, brush, nail clipper, and so on. Do not forget to pack sufficient quantity of diapers as well. It would be better to pack in cloth diapers to minimize wastage.

Mealtime

Another major consideration would be mealtime. Some of the things you need to bring include baby food, formula, bottles, spoons, and other mealtime items that your baby needs. Baby food in jars would make mealtime more convenient. If your baby is not yet feeding on solid food, then make sure you bring ample formula because you would not want your baby to go hungry in the middle of nowhere. It is a good thing if your angel is breastfeeding because this will save you a lot of time washing bottles and preparing milk.

Daytime

Strolling along the woods is easier if you bring a sturdy but lightweight foldable stroller. Choose paved trails to make the hiking trip easier. Avoid the off the beaten paths. Do not engage in activities that would put your baby in danger like mountain climbing or trekking.

Following all these tips would help contribute to a fun and safe camping trip with your cute little baby.
