Whoever said that camping could be fun without food is making a very big mistake. While a camping trip's success largely depends on the activities lined up and the people you are with, we cannot deny the fact that a sumptuous meal can make a trip even more memorable.
This is why we can never overlook the importance of careful food preparation in any camping trip. If you were appointed to be the master chef or you belong to the food committee for this year's trip, here are some practical tips to help you prepare a grand fiesta nobody will ever forget:
• Search for great tasting recipes. Mom's good old recipe book is an excellent source of timeless and priceless recipes but if you cannot find it, the Internet is also a good place to look. Just type on the search engine the type of recipe you want to find and voila, in an instant you will be bombarded with thousands of results. Opt for those recipes that have photos and require only easy to find ingredients.
• Prepare the menu at least one week before the trip. This will give you ample time to prepare all the necessary ingredients and cooking equipment. List everything so you do not forget anything. Finding out that you have forgotten an essential ingredient when you are already in the campsite can instantly turn your cooking adventure into a disaster.
• Check with the people you are going camping with for any food allergies or preferences. This way you can avoid the unfortunate scenario of your cousin turning red all over or a camping buddy being offended after eating something that is prohibited by his or her religion.
• Prefer easy-to-cook but delicious meals. Even if cooking is fun, it is also tiring. Because of this, you need to choose meals that will not take you whole day to prepare. Remember, you must have time for the other camping activities as well.
• Prepare the ingredients at home. Cut and slice those that need to be cut and sliced. Measure those that need to be measured. Put the prepared ingredients in Ziploc bags. It is also advisable to pre-cook meat and poultry at home so that cooking time will not take too long at the campsite.
• Keep safety in mind at all times. Food preparation does not only mean delicious meals but food safety as well. When cooking or serving, always cover pots and pans. Store leftovers only when there is still ice in the cooler, otherwise discard them. Keep children away from the kitchen. Rely only on dependable cooking equipment like Coleman stove and cookware.
• Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Always wash your hands when handling food especially raw meat and poultry. Clean the camp kitchen thoroughly after cooking.
By cooking simple but great tasting meals for everyone to enjoy, you can surely turn a camping trip into one that everybody will cherish and remember.

Oh yes, Dan. When camping, one must think ahead. You can't be way out in the wilderness or wherever and suddenly notice you've run out of potatoes. Or onions. But even if the cuisine isn't spectacular, fresh air just makes everything taste good!
I like that cute little Coleman Road Trip grill.
